PRACTICAL NEXT STEPS

The stages connect, but the purchase may loop back

Before spending on inspections

Establish that the yacht meets your brief and collect enough identity and equipment information to appoint the right professionals. Understand the proposed transaction and inspection conditions. Arrange suitable advice when deadlines, deposits or other commitments affect what happens next.

When new evidence changes the shortlist

A survey may identify further investigation or work you cannot justify. Return to the budget and candidate comparison rather than pressing on because you have already spent money. A decision to stop can be a useful result of a well-run investigation.

After settlement

Keep the inventory, reports, maintenance records and handover notes together. Begin with familiarisation and manageable sailing, then prioritise improvements from experience. Ownership is the point where the guide becomes an ongoing maintenance and skills plan, rather than ending at payment.
